Italian Ebony, Mother of Pearl & Bone Jewellery Casket c 1860

This is a 19th century Italian ebony and fruitwood casket. The designs are inlaid with mother of pearl, fruit wood and bone and a range of wood dyed in different colours to generate depth and visual interest. The inlaid design is of a classical style. The inlaid foliage and wreathes on the lid and all four sides incorporates lily of the valley, roses, acanthus leaves and grasses.
The interior contains the original crimson red velvet lining and the base is covered with the same fabric. The box is fitted with twin brass hinges and steel lock with the key.
